Bring Your Kids to Campus Day is on April 19th, 2019

Make sure to check-in at the Registration Table in the Student Experience Center (SEC) plaza any time from 8:30am-3:30pm on Bring Your Kids to Campus Day. The first 350 kids to the table will get a free t-shirt (sizes vary and will not be guaranteed).

2019 Bring Your Kids to Campus Day Schedule:

The following is a list of activities offered on BYKTC 2019. Each activity has a recommended age range so that you can get a better understanding of which activities are most appropriate for your child(ren). We realize that this is not a No School Day for the Corvallis School District (it is an early release day!), but we hope that you will still be able to enjoy campus with your school age children and/or might choose to grab them from school early.

 

Face Painting: Drop in 9am-12pm, Registration Table (SEC Plaza)

Recommended Ages: All 

The Theater Department will be offering free face painting for kids at the Bring Your Kids to Campus Day registration table, so make sure to stop by! 

 

OSU Football Practice: Drop in 9:30am-10:30am, Prothro Practice Field (next to the Truax indoor facility)
Recommended Ages: All   

The OSU Football team will be opening their practice for OSU families to come and watch! Check-in at the front gate and get an up-close and personal view of our football team.

 

Beavers Building Food Art: Drop in 9:30-10:30am & 1:30-2:30pm, SEC Plaza
Recommended Ages: 2-12 year olds
As the Go-To Experts for high quality, healthful food on campus, UHDS and OSU Nutrition welcome you and your kids to come play with your food! Kids will get an age appropriate kit of veggie ‘building materials’ from which to replicate a fun design or creature. Older kids may gain inspiration from our veggie creations or go off the rails to produce their own one-of-a-kind veggie vision.

 

Fisheries & Wildlife Critter Tour: Drop in 10-10:30am, Nash Hall Basement (Lab 33)
Recommended Ages: 3-10 year olds
Join Fisheries & Wildlife staff as they show off some of their fish, birds, and mammals (including sharks, bears & wolves!).
 

Win with Words: 10-11am, Waldo Hall 116

Recommended Ages: 6+ years old
Join the University Ombuds to play interactive games that help kids and parents improve their communication skills. We will be playing communication games at 10:00 am (best for 6 years and up) and 10:30 am (best for 9 years and up). Quiet activities for younger siblings will also be available.
 

Science Fun!: Drop in 10-11am & 1-2pm, Bates Hall 129   

Recommended Ages: 3+ years old
Join in on various science activities with the Child Development Center staff and learn more about their program.

 

Sing Along & Story Time: Drop in 10-11am, Hallie Ford 1st Floor Lobby   

Recommended Ages: Infant-6 year olds
Please join us for an interactive and engaging sing along and story time session! We will use music, movement, and reading to engage young children and to model a few fun ideas for parents to try at home.
 

Yoga & Mindfulness for Kids: Drop in 10-11am, MU Family Lounge 
Recommended Ages: 4-12 year old 

Through the use of storytelling, yoga postures will open our experiential program for children ages 4 to 12. After we try out some yoga postures we will then practice simple focused breathing meditations that can help children with concentration, focus and quieting the mind. There will also be opportunities to color and draw at the program. Wear comfortable clothing!

 

Journey the Globe: Drop in 10am-1pm, IILC Lobby 
Recommended Ages: Infant-10 year olds
Take your kids on a journey around the world with OSU’s Office of International Services and Global Opportunities! Little explorers will have the opportunity to color a passport and visit some exciting destinations in which to interact and explore through crafts, music and activities.

 

Have Fun @ Orange Media Network: Drop in 10am-2pm, Student Experience Center 4th floor 
Recommended Ages: All 

Come see us at Orange Media Network on the fourth floor of the Student Experience Center. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times, please no food or drink.       

               Photobooth - Take photos and get customized strips to remember the day (Bullpen)    

               Backdrop with Benny - Take picture with Benny at OMN (Bullpen)

               DJ booth - Go live on air and have your friends tune in (DJ Booth)

               TV - Make your own music video (Studio A/ Studio B)                     

              Creative - Design your own ad or cover page with the creative team (Bullpen)

 

Sink or Float & Build a Boat: Drop in 10am-2pm, Snell Hall 120
Recommended Ages: 5-12 year olds
Youth will test materials and make predictions as to whether the items will sink or float when placed in water. Youth can also make a research vessel out of craft supplies to see if it can carry a heavy load in a design challenge! These activities are sponsored by OSU Precollege Programs and the Regional Class Research Vessel Project.

 

Student Parent Social Hour: Drop in 11am-12pm, MU Family Lounge
Recommended Ages: All
Come meet other student parents who share the unique challenges of balancing school and parenting. Stop by for a few minutes or stay the whole hour. Come with or without your kids (there are toys/books in the room). Snacks provided.

 

Craft Center Printmaking Extravaganza: Drop in 11am-1pm, Craft Center (SEC Basement) 
Recommended Ages: 2+ years old 

Visit the craft center and learn about the different types of printmaking!               

Colorful Ink Block Prints (2-5 yr olds).           

Botanical Monotypes (6-10 yr olds). 

Ink Lab Explorations (11+ yr olds).

 

ASOSU Hangout: Drop in 11am-2pm, ASOSU Suite (SEC 250) 
Recommended Ages: All

Come hangout with the Associated Student of OSU and let your creativity run wild. There will be space setup to draw and do other arts and crafts.

 

Shoot for the Stars with the ASC: Drop in 12:30-3:30pm, Waldo Hall 120 
Recommended Ages: 3+ years old
The Academic Success Center (ASC) is excited to offer a couple of fun and interactive activities, including making slime and designing masks children can take with them. We will also have a space-themed photo booth where families will have the opportunity to capture this memorable day.

 

Disability Access Service Disney Trivia: Drop in 1-3pm, Registration Table (SEC Plaza)   

Recommended Ages: All 

Did you know that some of your favorite Disney characters have disabilities? Test your knowledge with OSU's Disability Access Services and learn which character has which disability. 

 

MU Scavenger Hunt: Drop in 1-3pm, MU Main Lounge

Recommended Ages: All 

Come join the MU Fun Team to participate in a scavenger hunt throughout the Memorial Union! The hunt will take about 10-15 minutes and will have a prize at the end. Adults and guardians are encouraged to join their children in this fun activity. The scavenger hunt will start in the MU main lounge and will be available for families to participate anytime from 1-3.

 

Write Your Own Book! Drop in 1-3pm, Valley Library- Undergrad Research & Writing Studio (main level)   

Recommended Ages: All 

Come to the Writing Studio and build a book! We’ll supply the materials, and you supply the imagination.

 

Robotics Demo: Drop in 1-3pm, Graf Hall 2nd Floor
Recommended Ages: 5 years and above

Oregon State University's graduate Robotics Program is one of the top-ranked in the United States. Stop by Graf Hall and see what we're up to on the cutting edge of robotics.

 

Family Climb & Play time: Drop in 1:30-3:30pm, McAlexander Fieldhouse   

Recommended Ages: 3 years and above
The McAlexander Fieldhouse will have the turf fields open for playing games and/or try your hand at the climbing wall!
 

Family Swim: Drop in 1:30-5pm, Dixon Swimming Pool 
Recommended Ages: All 

Family Swim Rules:  

Must be accompanied by a participating adult (age 18 or older) at all times 

May only participate during Family Swim Hours

If a child is not able to move in the water without feet touching the bottom or needs to wear a life-jacket, the child is considered a non-swimmer. Only three “non-swimmers” per adult and the adult must be in the water within arm’s reach of the children.

Only five “swimmers” per adult and the adult must be able to directly observe the children. Babies are allowed in the pool with plastic swim diapers  

 

CBEE Club Engineering Demos: Drop in 2-4pm, Kelley Engineering 1007   

Recommended Ages: 4-10 years

There will be 2 demonstrations:        

Gel Beads: Chemical Engineering Applications:Immerse yourself in the applications of chemical engineering with gel beads! Using chemistry applied to real life, see how chemical engineers clean up oil spills or improve medicine.    

Diaper Engineering for the Next Generation: Discover the innovation behind the modern diaper. Learn how chemical engineers and scientists came together to create the lightweight, absorbent diapers used today!

 

KidSpirit Fun!: Drop in 2-4pm, Langton 3rd floor 
Recommended Ages: 2 years and above
Leap, roll and tuck with KidSpirit Gymnastics! Basic skills will include log roles, jumping on the tumble track, bars, lower beams and an obstacle course. Individuals need to wear clothes they can move in that are free of zippers and buttons.

Waiting to get into Gymnastics? Grab a ball or join in on a game of tag and other games happening in the gym right outside the gymnastics room!

We will also have our inflatable archery range set up for individuals to learn a little bit about archery!
 

Bowling: Drop in 2-5pm, MU Basement 
Recommended Ages: All 

The MU Basement will be offering buy one game, get one free.
 

Minerals & Rocks: What are they good for?: Drop in 3-5pm, Wilkinson Hall Lobby 
Recommended Ages: 3+ years old
Is it a mineral or is a rock? Learn how we tell the difference, and how minerals and rocks are useful to us.
 

Drag Performer Story Hour: Drop in 3-5pm, Pride Center
Recommended Ages: 3+ years old
Join local drag performers for story hour at the Pride Center. Performers will read stories and chat with the children, and kids will have a chance to do a craft project. All are welcome, especially gender diverse children and families with LGBTQIA+ members.

This free, lunch-hour concert series has been a tradition at Oregon State University since 1969. The concerts take place in the beautiful Memorial Union Lounge, most Fridays during fall, spring and winter term, beginning at 12 p.m. and lasting for approximately 45 minutes. They feature a variety of OSU music ensembles, faculty and student musicians, as well as regional, national and international guest artists.
